POKOTABI / Korean Sakura-tei
韓国さくら亭
Located in Kisshoin, Minami Ward, Kyoto, Korean Sakura-tei pairs prized beef cuts like top blade and chuck rib with crisp chijimi pancakes and sizzling stone-pot bibimbap in an unhurried dining room.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Thick-cut slices of prized misuji (top blade) beef and the aroma of charcoal grilling define the experience at Korean Sakura-tei. Set in Kisshoin Nishinocho, in Kyoto’s Minami Ward, this casual restaurant pairs substantial grilled beef with an extensive repertoire of Korean side dishes. Tables are arranged with generous spacing between them, creating a calm atmosphere well suited to relaxed meals and unhurried conversation.
One of the highlights is Tanba beef misuji, sliced with considerable thickness to show off its tender texture and concentrated flavour. It is served with wasabi soy sauce for a clean, sharp contrast. Diners looking to sample several cuts side by side can choose curated assortments, such as a thick-cut trio featuring misuji alongside uwa-misuji (top blade shoulder) and sirloin, or a premium platter pairing misuji with sankaku karubi (triangular chuck rib). For a different mouthfeel, thinly sliced misuji is also offered with a rich house-made egg sauce in the style of yukhoe sauce, letting guests explore how varied cuts and seasonings reshape each bite.
A variety of Korean dishes are on hand to share alongside the grill. The seafood chijimi pancake and a molten-cheese version layered with homemade kimchi offer crisp edges and satisfying fillings that work well for groups. Salads and assorted kimchi remain generous even in half portions, while the meal naturally draws to a close over sizzling stone-pot dolsot bibimbap with savoury scorched rice, or chilled naengmyeon noodles.
For banquets and family gatherings, set-course menus bring together staples such as salted beef tongue, loin, chijimi, and stone-pot bibimbap, with optional all-you-can-drink add-ons. Operating primarily for dinner service, Korean Sakura-tei accepts reservations, making it a reliable destination for lively evenings around the charcoal brazier accompanied by makgeolli or cold draft beer.
